AWARD NOMINEE ANNOUNCED

Queer Fruits Film Festival is delighted to announce that Rosa; After Luxemburg has been selected as the QFFF 2011 Nominee for the prestigious National Film & Sound Archive Orlando Award.

This is the second year of the Orlando award which is open only to Australian GLBTIQ short films and which has a $5,000 prize and is acquisitive.

The Festival is one of only a few queer festivals in Australia invited by the NFSA to nominate to the award.

Congratulations to Desi Achilleos (Director) and Helen Morrison (Producer) on a very
deserving nomination and many best wishes for success.

NEW ! Festival Volunteer Appreciation Award : Virginia Barratt
Courtesy of RASU Leathergoods, this Award will be made as an alternative prize to the
Local Filmmaker Incentive in years when Northern Rivers' resident films are not available
for selection and screening. The inaugural recipient Virginia devotes countless hours to
aspects of back office Festival work which receive little recognition and yet are at the core
of keeping the Festival running professionally and smoothly. Virginia has created and
produced QFFF web resources since inception of the Festival. A huge thankyou on behalf
of the whole team.

Congratulations to all the talented filmmakers awarded.

the current Head of Screenwriting at AFTRS and a high-profile international producer.

The films were independently judged by 2010 Distinguished Festival Juror Francesco (Franc) Biffone and internationally respected and sought after Director of Photography. The program was judged solely on the screenings, without any additional information provided. In announcing his decisions, Franc requested that an honourable mention also be made of the following films which narrowly missed receiving the main awards:

In announcing Resonance as the 2010 Jury Prize winner, an especial note was made that the film is as relevant now as when it was produced and that the film continues to exemplify innovation, celebration and pride in queer culture. The Festival also hopes that this will inspire current and future GLBTIQ filmmakers to recognise that queer films may remain of continuing relevance and make a genuine difference to audiences and to screen culture.

Queer Fruits Film Festival is open to innovative, entertaining, intelligent and celebratory films of all lengths; from short films, to selected features completed within the last three years. Films which uplift and inspire; films which explore the serious realities and issues that confront the GLBTIQ communities.

Queer filmmakers Enter Now !

Your film will be screened as part of the Queer Fruits Film Festival in the lead-up days to the fabulous Tropical Fruits New Years’ Eve party - which attracts 3,000 international, national and local GLBTIQ guests. It is anticipated that Queer Fruits Film Festival will provide a welcoming queer space to meet and greet visitors arriving in town for the party and an opportunity to network with other queer filmmakers.

There will be Awards presented in in each category (except features) - throughout the year Category Prizes and Supporters, Sponsors and Friends of the event will be announced on the website and through GLBTIQ media.

If you have never entered a queer film festival before - we invite you to submit your film; films from both emerging and experienced filmmakers will be Selected to screen within the program; to experienced filmmakers - particularly those with Features - if you have a film which has previously screened at a national or international queer film festival and which you would like to submit to Queer Fruits Film Festival, please feel welcome to contact the Festival Director to discuss any specific requirements you may have for entry.
